Why Michael Bloomberg Prefers Copper Bathtub

Michael Bloomberg prefers copper bathtub

It has been much said and read about Michael Bloomberg’s lavish investment into the custom build of his soaking metal vessel, but there is a reason why this American business magnate, politician, philanthropist, the founder, CEO, and owner of Bloomberg L.P  shelled out a small fortune for a copper bathtub made by hand in France.

Following are some of the points Etienne Dulin, the owner of the 200-year-old Atelier du Cuivre (Copper Workshop)
in the town of Villedieu-les-Poeles mentions about copper bathtubs:

  1. Copper tub “kills bacteria,” due to anti-microbial properties of the metal. Hence billionaire can rest assured that he is soaking in bacteria free tub.
  2. “The advantage of copper is that it takes the temperature of the water almost immediately, which means the heat of the bath is lost less quickly,” Dulin explained.
  3. “He requested a nickel finish, to give a slightly glossier effect,” Dulin revealed to AFP, describing how the copper bathtub had been shaped entirely by hand from two 2mm-thick sheets of copper.
  4. Dulin would not be drawn on the cost of the tub but the man hours involved mean Bloomberg is likely to have had to part with at least 10,000 euros ($13,300) to be able to enjoy the advantages of copper-bottomed bathing.
  5. Skilled craftsmen in Normandy (northern France) spent 250 hours making the luxury tub to the billionaire businessman’s exact specification, according to Etienne Dulin.

For billionaire Bloomberg sure it was a way to distinguish himself from the crowd and get the craftsmen to spend 250 hours to get to get a custom make, but for average people who seeks to get value out of their investment rather than just show off some elite class or status, copper bathtubs are definitely value for money.

The fact that it quickly takes the temperature and retains it for longer duration mean that you spend less in your electricity bills and spend more time in bacteria free bathtub.

Apart form above facts copper has rich health benefits. Copper is an essential trace mineral necessary for survival. Most of the copper in the body is found in the liver, brain, heart, kidneys and skeletal muscle. Copper helps with the formation of collagen, increases the absorption of iron and plays a role in energy production.

As we age, our skin thins and lines and wrinkles develop as our bodies become slower to produce collagen, elastin and glycoaminoglycans, which essentially are the cement that bonds tissue components together. Age spots appear and skin becomes dull and lifeless as cell renewal slows and the skin retains less moisture. Copper plays a vital role in skin health by helping restore the skin’s ability to repair itself. Copper is a powerful collagen and elastin provider, important in the production of glycoaminoglycans. This essential mineral also works as an antioxidant to protect the skin against damaging free radicals. In addition, the availability of sufficient copper permits copper-dependent enzymes to aid and augment natural tissue building processes.
